Ascension Day is a Christian moving holiday celebrated 39 days after the first day of Easter. In Norway, Ascension Day is a holiday that is often called just "Ascension of Christ. This day is not flag day in Norway.

The feast was probably introduced in the 4th century, when some Christian churches began to celebrate it as a separate feast. The first known example of this being found in a liturgical calendar is from the beginning of the 4th century, when the synod of Elvira rejected a custom of beginning a new fasting period after the fortieth day. World No Tobacco Day has been marked in Norway since 1988. On 31 May each year, global attention is focused on tobacco-related deaths and diseases. Every year, the World Health Organization (WHO) determines the theme for the day, which in 2013 is "Ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship". They are responsible for the global selection. In Norway, the day is marked locally.
